Cave Story Recoded

Cave Story Recoded was another early attempt at recreating the freeware engine. It was abandoned in 2019 in favor of CSE2. This is not to be confused with Cave Story Engine, the unreleased engine created by user Noxid for one specific mod.

In the words of the developer Gabriel:

(note that CSR is not super accurate (it’s based on decompiled code but it didn’t aim to actually reproduce the exe 1/1 like CSE2 did) and it doesn’t have any NPCs implemented beyond the Waterway if I recall)
